In this article we'll provide some tips on how you can improve website conversion rates.

One thing that you should be clear on before we go any further is that improving website conversion rates isn't something that only matters to e-commerce companies.

Websites can also form an important part of your company's customer retention strategy; the 'conversions' that you track can be customers who return to leave feedback, people who sign up for regular newsletters and promotions, or a whole wealth of actions that could prove useful to your business over time. Even if you only build good feeling with your website, the improved brand awareness can still lead to a sale further down the line.

Anyway, moving on swiftly, here are a few key aspects that can help you improve your website conversion rate - whether that means more customer interest or an actual customer sale:

Know your customer: A better understanding of the customer is essential to improving your conversion rates. Dig deep into your web analytics to track click patterns, user behavior, referral sites - anything you can find. It can all prove extremely useful in knowing just why people are on your site in the first place and why they are or are not taking the actions you want them to. Working out why people aren't converting in the first place is a pretty fundamental step.

Don't neglect self-promotion: There's a lot of competition on the web and users are notoriously impulsive in their browsing habits. It doesn't matter if you've got a great reputation if people haven't heard of you. Make sure that if you have good feedback, industry awards or some kind of proof that your business is the best at what it does, then anyone who visits your site will know it by the time they leave.

Be clear about what you do: People rarely throw money at things they don't understand. Well, things they don't think they understand (there is a small but important difference after all). You should clearly explain what you offer and what the customer would be doing when they 'convert' - and you should never, ever be unclear about anything that might affect your customer. People who feel in control are more likely to take action.

Commit to testing: Don't put half-baked strategies into action on your website. Using what you've learnt about your customer, seriously consider what you can do to improve your site before you take any action. Then once you've taken it, commit to it - see how rates are affected over time. You can experiment by all means but make sure that the experiment runs for long enough to be worth doing and make sure that it has a chance to make a change in the first place.

<![CDATA[Data Security on Conference Calls]]> http://itezer.com/blog/Business_Communication/971-Data-Security-on-Conference-Calls.html http://itezer.com/blog/Business_Communication/971-Data-Security-on-Conference-Calls.html Powwow conference calls outwith the server. However there are some important steps that everyone should take to improve their conference calling security.

Change Your Password
The easiest suckers in any digital environment are those that don't change their passwords regularly. So change it so that inappropriate people who have learnt your password cannot tap into the calls. Remember that if you use the same password former employess probably know it. Former employees are commonly disgruntled or working for competitors so please change your password!

Use the security features provided by the Conference Call Providers
Many conference call providers provide users with a PIN for each individual call. Therefore the PIN will only work for that call so even if someone knows your password they can't listen in to your call. Anther useful feature is that when the moderator exits the call the shuts down. This is useful as it means that the moderator has full control over security and he knows that no more will be discussed once he leaves the call.

As always make sure your system is up to date with the latest security updates and make sure your anti-virus software and firewall is up-to-date and switched ON!(you would be suprised to learn how many people do not switch on their firewall.

Good luck and happy calling

<![CDATA[How to select an SEO Reseller Program and profit]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/961-How-to-select-an-SEO-Reseller-Program-and-profit.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/961-How-to-select-an-SEO-Reseller-Program-and-profit.html simplewhite Many people are entering the search engine optimization (SEO) space. Particularly in the last 18 months, the general public has become aware of the economic value associated with a page 1 ranking on a high volume search phrase. As this understanding has spread, so have the SEO businesses that aim to help others rank well. That's a fairly normal story of the development of a market where there was not really one before. But what is more interesting is the development of the SEO reseller market. SEO resellers operate just like any other value added reseller (VAR) in other sectors. We are all familiar with the VAR approach to selling telephony or web hosting, but in the search engine optimization space, SEO reseller programs are newer.

So if you have decided you want to join an SEO reseller program, how do you decide which one to go with? Here are the decision criteria you should use to make sure you end up with a partner that will help you hit your revenue goals. First, don't join any SEO reseller program from a company that does not themselves have good ranking. As obvious as this sounds, it would be like to see a dentist with yellow teeth. If the SEO doesn't use their own approach to rankings with good results, they will not be a good partner. You need to be with a team that believes in what they are doing enough to use it on their own website. If not, you should be worried about the quality of the search engine optimization.

The second criteria when selecting an SEO reseller partner is to try calling them. If you land in a call center where the people on the other end of the phone don't really understand SEO, pass. You want a team at the other end of the phone that is knowledgeable. No, not every member of the entire team will be an SEO super star - but the training in the organization should be strong enough to keep even their entry-level people from saying things you know to be incorrect.

Finally, the economics of the deal have to be good. I listed this one last because it actually isn't the first consideration. You want an SEO reseller program that satisfies criteria 1 and 2 before you even consider the deal. But then the deal has to be reasonable for you. Don't automatically reach for the deal that makes you the most money on paper. Really think about the entire picture. If you are just getting into the SEO reseller space, you probably have not fully realized how competitive it is. You will soon. And the importance of customer retention will hit you in the face shortly too. For this reason, I would join an SEO reseller program that paid me 20% less but kept the customers on-board 40% longer any day. But without a thorough understanding of the search engine optimization space, you would probably first conclude that higher payments are better.

In summary, the SEO space had come a long way in the last 18 months. By every indication, it is a growth industry and has an economic upside to those who want to enter it. Joining an SEO reseller program is a great way to get into the space without investing in the product development and R&D that is really required. And if you use the decision criteria I've laid out here you will find a partner that will help you achieve your revenue targets in this exciting growth industry.

Here are five reasons you should use, as well as tips. They are listed in no particular order.

1. Picasa Photo Viewer is a quick and Beautiful
5 Reasons You Should Be Using Picasa

Picasa's Photo Viewer provides a nice alternative to the default Windows Photo Viewer. It pops up the image a nice smooth animation and gives you some options that appear in the picture. It'sa very aesthetically pleasing way to view the photos, and doesn't have to use the other part of Picasa! After Picasa is installed, just go to the Start menu, go to Picasa 3, and then click Set Picasa Photo Viewer.

2. It provides a quick and easy Web Backup
5 Reasons You Should Be Using Picasa

I never got a picture on Flickr or other sharing sites, but I think Picasa is a good (and easy) way to keep me back to the company's own image. All you need to do is log in with your Google Account and select Synchronize the Web! Before you do this, you can go to the Picasa, go to Tools and select Settings and then click the File tab to add the file types Picasa, go to the Web Albums tab and change the default size of the Original so doesn't resize your images.

3. Easy image editing

Although it might not be as powerful as Photoshop, Picasa is still an excellent program for editing images. It replaces most of the cases of simple sliders and buttons. I actually prefer this quick edits in Photoshop, simply because of its simplicity and speed. It will also save the original if you ever want to come back. The above image before and after a series of simple slides and press a button.

4. Nice screen saver
5 Reasons You Should Be Using Picasa

Picasa is a really nice screen saver with many different settings. Get it to Picasa, go to Tools, Options. Click Settings to change some stuff. It offers several ways to browse your pictures and you can choose which folders to use it. Or, you can also use the RSS feed!

<![CDATA[Google’s Chrome OS: Future is here?]]> http://itezer.com/blog/google/957-Google-s-Chrome-OS-Future-is-here-.html http://itezer.com/blog/google/957-Google-s-Chrome-OS-Future-is-here-.html simplewhite Sometime in 2010, Google Chrome version of the operating system, its introduction to the netbook operating system. It will be much more than that, though. It's take on a completely new desktop operating system. Although the final version is still months from release there's enough Chrome available, we can begin to see what it will look.

For beginners, Chrome OS is Linux. To be precise, it owes much of its genes on Ubuntu. But that's all under the surface. You won't need to know the shell command from GNOME to use it. As in fact, you won't need to know about traditional desktop Linux - KDE and GNOME - either. Chrome OS's interface, Google's browser Chrome. If you use a web browser, you'll be able to use Chrome OS.

That'This is not the case now. Today, you have two options if you want to try Chrome OS. The first of these is to create yourself using Google's instructions. Even though it's pretty trivial for professional users of Linux, it's not for anyone else. A simpler way to try is to visit the Chrome OS blog, fan site Chrome OS frequently that the function is based on the Chrome OS, you can either run from a USB stick, or as a virtual machine using Sun's VirtualBox.

Either way, you should keep in mind that you're working with an outline of the operating system. This is no way, shape, or form the operating system that's ready for prime-time yet. Between it and the recent public comments from Matthew Papakipos, Chrome OS' engineering director, you can see where Google goes netbook with its operating system.

One of the first things I thought about this new operating system is that Chrome is not OS' to replacement Windows. It's a Windows alternative.

You won't be able to run Photoshop, Gimp, or other heavy programs on it. Or rather, it's Linux I'm one that will work out how to do it, but it's not with capital letters, point. Point is not't run standard desktop applications on top of it, point it to run Web-applications.

For example, you can forget about Microsoft Office or OpenOffice to Chrome OS. Google Docs or other Web-based office software such as Zoho, will be what you use for desktop software.

In short, if you can run from the web, you should be able to use Chrome on the PC OS. If it's a traditional desktop applications, even though it's Linux-based, you won't be able to run it. You also won't be able to run Android-specific applications on it (the Google Android's smartphone operating system.) Chrome OS doesn't even support Dalvik runtime program that allows developers to run Android on other operating systems. Sometime in the future, which may change, but so far it's Chrome for netbooks, smartphones, and Android for two don't meet.

Although this is subject to change, there are currently two ways to get into the application. The first is to show web applications in different tabs, while others show more Chrome browser window and allow the movement of applications between Chrome browser windows. To some extent this reflects the different types of applications: programs that you expect to run in a web browser window and those you expect to run as a separate program. Google is working to erase the differences between them so that the web browser interface is becoming a universal interface for all applications and websites.

That doesn't mean that you won't be able to Run for serious business applications in Chrome OS. You will. They'll be only be SaaS (Software as a Service Programs), as SAP's Business by Design, SugarCRM or Salesforce.

Thou't, however, must be tied to the Internet through the use of Chrome OS or Web-based applications. Chrome OS uses Google Gears to frequently used applications and data on your netbook. Gears works to keep the cache a copy of your programs and data on local disk. If the user so everything is visible. For example, if you need to edit the document, and you're offline, but it's found in Gear's cache data, you'll have to do the same as if you were online. No problems, no muss.

You also won't have to be online to view or play multimedia files. Already we know that Chrome OS will be able to read Adobe PDF files, Adobe Flash and video playback. Now we know that Google is a media player to integrate Chrome OS, which will at least play music in MP3 format. This will certainly play a different media file types, as well, but exactly what you, we don't I do not know. We know that you won't have to be online to play with. So for example if you have a movie in MP4, USB stick, you'll be able to watch it, even if you are not online. Again, the intention is not't click on the movie file and have the media player pop-up her play. Instead, the movie will start playing in the browser window. Chrome OS is all about everything integrated into a Web browser experience.

More than 1,600 new applications for Flurry started in January, when less than 600 at the beginning of December 2010 represents the largest increase in history, the analysis starts the company's follow-up.

<![CDATA[The Three Wise Men Of Search Engine Optimisation]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/770-The-Three-Wise-Men-Of-Search-Engine-Optimisation.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/770-The-Three-Wise-Men-Of-Search-Engine-Optimisation.html articleauthor search engine optimisation (SEO). As you may or may not already be aware, the term SEO basically encompasses all the techniques used by site owners to push their site up the rankings in the major search engines, the reward for being at the top of Google and the rest of them? Traffic!

But like everything with high reward, having a successful website is down to hard work. The good news for any business owner looking to improve their online presence is that anyone can apply some basic SEO principles and techniques. It is therefore recommended that you take a look into aspects such as keyword research, quality content and last but not least link building. Those three sections of SEO are incredibly important if you wish to get visitors to buy what ever it is you are selling online. Let’s take a look at each of them in a little more detail.

Keyword Research

This part of search engine optimisation is often overlooked, this is very unfortunate because by taking the time to cover this step you will be saving yourself a ton of time in the long run. It is keyword research that will let you identify certain keywords (terms & queries people enter into the search engines) that have little to no competition.

Why is a keyword with little competition valuable to you? Well it means it will be a lot easier to rank on the top spots for that term. Why waste months and months of time going after a term that is so competitive it’s pretty much impossible? By going after lesser competitive terms you are picking of the low hanging fruit with ease as your competitors blindly go after higher competition terms only to later realise their efforts are pointless. Extra guidance on keyword research can be found at the SEO Edinburgh walkthrough guide.

Quality Content

No matter how much you put into researching particular terms for your site, you will always need to back it up with quality original content. Not only will the search engines love you for providing them with fresh data to feed on, your visitors will be engaged on your site and will have a higher likelihood of making a purchase.

It is therefore vital that you sit down and create some content that related to not only what you offer as a business, but what your targeted keywords were during the research period.

Link building

Once you have chosen some low competition terms and written about those terms on your site, it is time to promote your work through what is known as link building. This process involves getting links from other sites to your.

Thankfully this process is easier than it sounds as there are many websites that are willing to give a link back to your site; if for instance, you provide them with some quality content in return.

There are also other link building options such as getting your website listed in the many web directories out there. Again this process is easy enough as it is just a matter of adding your web address to these sites and you shall get the link in return.

So there you have it, you now have no excuse regarding your underperforming website. You know exactly what to do if you are to improve your websites position. By following these 3 basic concepts of search engine optimisation you will be sure to see some more visitors find your site organically through all of the major search engines.]]>

It is likely to be a question in SEO expert's mind that it is reliable to continue with current SEO strategy in order to rule the search rankings or there will be some dramatic changes in Google's algorithm for improved search engine results. In fact, the Google has already began to show some variation in ranking with some hard to solve formulas for SEO masters.

Some of the notable variation in Google search results in 2010 will be:

* Geo location of any search query:

Google search engine algorithms may pay more attention geo location of any search query. That means search results in Google.com may vary in USA and UK for same keyword. The percentage of variation in results may vary upon competition of querying keyword. Means higher the competition, higher the variation.

Continuous back-links from low PR and irrelevant websites may really hurt your rankings. It's also useless to use two-way (reciprocal) or three-way link exchanges in an order to improve rankings. Google is having the number of heads with PhDs and for them it is not hard to find two-way or three-way links.

* Google will no more equal to Search Engine:

Yes. After dominating nearly a decade, Google is now facing very tough competition in search engine market with rivals like Yahoo and Bing. Even though Yahoo is not as much effective as Bing because Bing is really giving some very good and relevant results in compare to Yahoo. In 2010, Google will definitely have to face some great challenges from Bing. In addition, if Yahoo/Bing partnership will come into reality than it would be biggest search engine revolution in the decade.

* Some other small but important factors:

Page load time, bounce rate, domain age would remain some other factor which may gain some importance in search engine results of Google. <![CDATA[Enable Automatic Login in Ubuntu 9.10 Server]]> http://itezer.com/blog/ubuntu-linux/621-Enable_Automatic_Login_in_Ubuntu_9_10_Server.html http://itezer.com/blog/ubuntu-linux/621-Enable_Automatic_Login_in_Ubuntu_9_10_Server.html Sean Ubuntu makes it easy to enable automatic login if you're using a login manager such as GDM. I was recently setting up a minimal Ubuntu 9.10 system with an LXDE desktop and no GDM. Here#8217;s how I enabled automatic login.

Note: This was tested on Ubuntu 9.10. Previous versions of Ubuntu require different procedures because of changes to the way Ubuntu boots.

Open /etc/init/tty1.conf as root:

sudo nano /etc/init/tty1.conf

Change the last line of this file to (where USERNAME is the username of the user you want to log in):

exec /bin/login -f USERNAME < /dev/tty1 > /dev/tty1 2>#038;1

Reboot, and the user you chose should be logged in automatically after boot. If something goes wrong, you can switch to a different TTY with CTRL+ALT+F2 and log in normally.

If you want this user to be logged into a graphical environment instead of just a shell, there#8217;s more work to be done. Open your user#8217;s .bashrc file:

nano ~/.bashrc

Add the following to the end of the file:

if [ $(tty) == "/dev/tty1" ]; then
startx
fi

This code will start X (the graphical environment) whenever the user logs in on TTY1. You can add more code after startx that will be executed if the user logs out of X.

<![CDATA[Setting up Ubuntu 9.10]]> http://itezer.com/blog/ubuntu-linux/536-Setting_up_Ubuntu_9_10.html http://itezer.com/blog/ubuntu-linux/536-Setting_up_Ubuntu_9_10.html Sean Today, finally install Ubuntu 9.10. I've only to update the system for several hours, but everything seems to work smoothly.

II used my usual technique to install the new version of Ubuntu. I'm using a separate home and root partition. To use a custom installer Ubuntu partition and converted small partition using the new ext4 file system and use the old boot partition as the new boot partition. Setup has finished in less than nine minutes. Before leaving the live CD, opened a file browser (Alt-F2 and "gksu nautilus") to remove the old configuration files (files and folders from the period in your home directory). With the exception of a few applications I don't want to have to reconfigure, I moved the old config files in the backup location. This allows me to start new applications and application configuration, without having to backup and restore my data.

Ubuntu 9.10 is out for a while now, so surely everyone knows what's new. I'll just mention a few things I've found setting up the new system.

Chrome and elementary

The default theme (and especially the icons) are much improved in Ubuntu 9.10. But I'm not a fan of orange so I installed the elementary theme (just the GTK and icon themes). I'm getting a warning that I don't have the right theme engine installed, but I like how it looks so I just ignored it.

The first thing I noticed after installing the Nvidia drivers and getting Compiz running was how moving windows around looked jerky. I reapplied my settings from Make Compiz Run Smoothly and Without Tearing to fix Compiz's refresh frequency and now it's back to being smooth.

I'm using Chrome for web browsing now. Before the upgrade I was using the daily builds of Chromium. I used Google's bookmark sync to save my bookmarks, but couldn't restore them because the official release of Chrome lacks the sync feature. I couldn't find a way to get at the bookmarks online (why isn't this integrated with Google Bookmarks?)(update: A commenter points out that bookmarks are available in Google Docs), so I copied .config/chromium/Default/Bookmarks from my backed up configuration folder to the new Chrome configuration at ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks.

I installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras as usual to install Flash, Java, web fonts, and media codecs. For some reason this didn't install the Java plugin. I installed 'sun-java6-plugin' separately to fix this.

After installing the latest version of GNOME Do I was pleased to find that it can now open my home folder. This bug (I think it was actually in Nautilus) has been annoying me for ages.

I added the new Wine PPA to get the latest versions of Wine. Trying to install the 'wine' package failed with a "unresolvable dependencies" error. Installing wine1.2 instead worked (all 'wine' should do is install wine1.2 anyways). There's a forum thread about this issue.

Ubuntu 9.10 has a little mail icon near the notification area called Indicator Applet. I'm using web-based mail and instant messaging, so the Evolution and Empathy integration aren't useful for me. I am using a utility called Gmail Notifier which integrates with Indicator Applet and Ubuntu's notification system. When I get a new email it pops up one of Ubuntu's fancy notifications and lights up the mail icon.

<![CDATA[Domain age factor in Search Engine Optimization]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/484-Domain_age_factor_in_Search_Engine_Optimization.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/484-Domain_age_factor_in_Search_Engine_Optimization.html Derek The age of a domain affect search ranking is known to all who are actively a part of SEO services. Because of this reason, many websites have preferred to buy the old domain name in order to benefit from aging. This is not a bad idea at all, especially if bought the domain is relevant for sites theme and the new area being built contain quality content. One of the many factors in Google's search engine algorithm is the age of a domain name. On a small scale, the age of a domain gives the appearance of longevity and therefore a higher relevancy score in Google. Powered by spam websites that appear and die fast is the age of the domain, usually a sign on a website yesterday's news or tomorrow's popular site. We see this in business, for example. While the novelty may go with a new store in town gives a brief initial burst activity, people tend to trust a company that has been around for a long time on one that is completely new. The same goes for websites.

But spammers are always there to exploit any opportunity they could find. Then also use this technology and use the old domain is nothing more than a link farm. Spammers tend to make use of link farms in order, although age domains are lots of good links more weight to get a higher ranking. Apparently, search engines hate these tactics and have tried and still trying to find ways to combat these link farms, both old and new.

Microsoft has tried to combat this problem by looking not only at the age of the domain, and the number of sites linking to it, but also an age of the domain of those sites. This means that although the link farms can get lots of incoming links those links would not't keep as much weight as links from older, more reputable sites, since most of the sites, joining link farms are new. MSN Live Search factors in not just the domain age of your own side, but the domain age of the pages linking to you also. This means that even assemble a large quantity of links is no longer enough, if the search engines find these compounds are of low quality links. Two things that have been treated in an age of a domain are: age of the site and how long a domain has been registered.

On the other hand it means for ordinary websites, what is that it will make it a bit harder to do link building because we need to get more links from older sites. Add to the relevance of the site, and all these factors, what it simply means that organic link building makes more sense since search engines can find better ways to determine which sites are really offering something of value and not.

The new service allows users to bypass your own Internet service provider's DNS to use Google's performance-optimized servers, name lookup. Internet users continued access to the DNS in the background every time you enter a URL in your browser, click the hyperlink, email, or perform any other task to resolve IP address of host names.

User's currently assigned DNS server may be overloaded, slow, or even maliciously poisoned provide bad information. This means that Google's new services so the potential to improve the efficiency and safety.

Users can search by entering a new Google's difficult to remember DNS IP addresses (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) to replace their existing DNS settings, either individually on each computer used by, or central to your AirPort base station or other router, which will then have access to Google's DNS to perform all network query host name.

Other free DNS services are already available, but most cover their costs by shifting is not a query (for mistyped or incorrect URLs) for ad-supported sites that propose alternatives. <![CDATA[Links Exchange with care]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/429-Links_Exchange_with_care.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/429-Links_Exchange_with_care.html Derek You have to build a high quality connection, if you want a good position in search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo! etc. This will help you get links, which is to increase the search engine results page position to the main page and automatically to the deeper URLs. Link exchanges with other webmasters and bloggers are not always highly valued things as you think. The reason is promiscuously exchange links causes a lot of noise and haphazardness. Your exchange links with the importance of the linkages that are completely unrelated to the site will not be good for the promotion of websites. This will simply increase the number of links. Therefore be related to the quality of the building use to place links must be related and voluntary. Thing is very simple, that if a party hair and links to web designing and web designing web pages link to hair or side of the body. It does not give great value, and it makes no sense.

So, external links, which are listed on the site should add value to existing content. If a web site but don't provide services, then makes perfect sense to recommend some quality visiting Web sites or resources. Similarly, a company can link to a website or websites that provide search engine web page designs or sites which contain useful web design tips and tricks. So it is that we should be concerned. Another risk is the very fact that promiscuously exchange links with different types of websites can damage the reputation of your website, and can not be a punishment for links to websites which have a bad reputation. So uncritically put the website link does not work for you more.

When you have a lot of quality incoming links, to communicate to search engines that your website contains very valuable information and therefore should be ranked higher on a related topic. Even when links to other websites and if these external websites containing information, then too much trust your website deserves a higher rank. So when it comes to exchange links, then always remember to share your connection with some other link quality but not the mass and quantity of links that can damage your purpose, instead of doing good for your site high.

Search engines consider the number of quality incoming links, they are telling the popularity of a specific site for that keyword. Now your are happy that you get more incoming links, but the fact is your links now and should be interrelated and voluntary. So when you exchange links then do not forget to share with some other link quality but not the mass and quantity of links that can damage your purpose, instead of doing good for your site high. It is all about building quality links in search engine optimization.

<![CDATA[SEO Is Just What Every Website Needs]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/440-SEO_Is_Just_What_Every_Website_Needs.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/440-SEO_Is_Just_What_Every_Website_Needs.html Edwin Would you boost up your website with traffic? And increase the chances of marketing your business in the world? Search Engine Optimization is the answer. Create a good website involves a lot of work. But it pays off because it will increase the chances of making your website visible to your prospect customers. This will Search Engine Optimization be your tool to improve or optimize your website. Many website owners aspire to reach the top ranks of search engines. If this is done properly, then companies will be able to achieve success at a faster pace. And if they are going to be on the top rank, people who are Internet savvy can easily find your site because it is on the top page of search engines. Users will never have a hard time searching for your business on the Internet because it is already presented on the top sides. To help you out in optimizing your website or increase the usability of search engine optimization, here are some ways to help you.

First is that you need to look for the right keywords or phrases. Before you create a good website, make sure you know what type of business you are in and choose an appropriate keywords that would fit perfectly in your products or services. It is very important for you to search for the right keywords, as this will serve as your tool to locate your business. And do not forget to use the keywords, at least 5 times in your pages, then there will be chances that your website will be opened and the perception that users of the website. I'll give an example, if your business caters more about dresses, and so after a perfect or near word for dresses.

It can be a garment or it depends on what kind of dresses you have to. Just be specific and precise by selecting a keyword or keywords. Internet savvy people will easily see your site, because these keywords commonly used by most website users. And they can easily find your website with just one click. Another is to do your part is minimal content. It is the most important rule of Search Engine Optimization. Website users prefer to visiting sites that have a minimal content of the page than long, wide pages. It will certainly cause them to be bored to read all your pages. It would also be very time consuming to read all the pages. So create pages with minimal content yet very informative and easy to understand. But you must not make it so complicated, but make it as simple as you can. The content of the pages should be over 300 words because some search engines will penalize page in search engine rankings. In fact, sometimes if it is really necessary is it still ok to have a long scripted page that would be inserted on your website. The Web users will just scroll down until they get what they want.

<![CDATA[Trade Directories Submission]]> http://itezer.com/blog/seo/386-Trade_Directories_Submission.html http://itezer.com/blog/seo/386-Trade_Directories_Submission.html Derek
There are many well-known global and national directories who offer listings to every imaginable industry eg Kompass, Tradekey, Applegate, Yell, Thomson etc. Others focus on specific niches, industries, regions or markets. These directories can often be found in the first few pages of the search results for your top keywords - they generally have far bigger marketing budgets than you or I!

There are also a considerable number of directories specifically for importers and exporters. These are particularly useful, both to find new suppliers and to break into international markets.

Many of these directories offer a free, basic online listing in their searchable database.

You will need to investigate which categories your products should be listed under, and choose the most appropriate to enable your potential customers to find you easily. However, it is also worth searching on your competitors and see whether they have spotted any additional market sectors for similar products.

Some directories offer additional services, such as online quotes and lead generation, enhanced and featured listings, listings in a print directory or magazine. However attractive these may seem, it may well be worth testing the water first with a free listing before expending your hard-won marketing budget on an unknown service that may or may not yield results.

Your descriptions need to be carefully crafted, and optimised for your top keywords. Many of these directories employ experienced SEO experts in order to get good search engine rankings and attract new customers, so use that to your advantage.

There are directories who only offer paid listings and it is important that you ask all the right questions to check Value For Money (VFM) before signing any contracts. Always ask if you can have a trial, and always haggle over the price of a listing for your business. Without businesses like yours, they would not have a directory so do not assume the rate card is fixed.

Ask for audited or confirmed unique visitor numbers, page views for the site and by category, and example clickthroughs for other advertisers. Make sure the results they give you are current but also indicate whether the site activity is growing or diminishing over time eg 6 months of data or so.

Compare the value of potential visitors to your site with any Pay per Click campaign costs you have eg Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing etc.

If you decide to go for an online quotes package too, remember that you will need to regularly check your emails for enquiries and leads. You will need to respond promptly and many of these services offer purchasers the chance to rate and review suppliers.

Good ratings plus positive feedback = future sales plus loyal customers.

Keep a detailed list of all directories to which you submit your business, and regularly check and update your listing with new products, brands, amended company details, and top keywords.

Nick Baum, product manager for Chrome, gave the details in a post on the Google Groups page for browser extensions. The post encouraged developers to update their extensions to take advantage of the new Chrome user interface.

"Why make the switch now? The earlier you switch, the more time you will have to polish your experience for our Beta launch in early December," Baum said. "We realize this means dropping Mac support for a couple of weeks, but we already have people working on that. If you prioritize the Windows and Linux versions, we'll bring you cross-platform parity as soon as we can!"

In October, Google Chrome for Mac released the status of developer preview. To the new version will be added QuickTime and printing compatibility.

Company officials had previously said they hope to release a final version of Chrome for Mac by the end of 2009. Currently, the Webkit-based browser is only available as a test version for developers, even though three versions of it have already been released on Windows.

As several commenters and I realized, this may not be the best solution. The package is branded Shiretoko instead of Firefox 3.5, including the user agent string which can cause compatibly problems with some websites.

Manually downloading and installing Firefox from Mozilla every time there is a security update is not a great option either. Instead, let’s use Ubuntuzilla, a script that can install and update Mozilla applications outside of Ubuntu’s repository system.

Ubuntuzilla can integrate the new version of Firefox into your system as well as undo its changes if you want to go back. All your extensions, bookmarks, plugins, and settings should transfer over to the new version. The only thing that didn’t transfer was my open tabs from my previous session.

  1. Visit the Ubuntuzilla download page to find the latest deb package appropriate for your system (32 or 64-bit). Download and install the package.
  2. At this point you should completely close Firefox.
  3. You’ll need to use a terminal to let Ubuntuzilla guide you through the installation. Run this command to start:
    ubuntuzilla.py -a install -p firefox
  4. Ubuntuzilla will ask a few questions: confirming that it has found the correct version to install, choosing a localization (14 for en-US), confirming the localization, a sudo prompt, and a prompt for enabling automatic updating.

  5. Near the end of the process you should see The new Firefox version 3.5 has been installed successfully.

You can now use your normal Firefox item in the menu to start Firefox 3.5, or by running the command firefox. Check out Ubuntuzilla’s website for the simple removal instructions as well as what do do when you are notified there is a Firefox update available.

[update] Mozilla has released Firefox 3.5.1. I followed the instructions on Ubuntuzilla’s page to update to this new version.

I’ve come across two bugs so far in Firefox 3.5: clicking the middle mouse button anywhere on a page tries to load a URL from the clipboard (fixed using workaround), and fullscreen Flash video crashes Firefox (waiting for a fix or better workaround).

There’s a native Linux port of the latest version, Google Earth 5.

Here’s how you can easily install Google Earth on Ubuntu.

How-to Install Google Earth 5 on Ubuntu

Install Google Earth

  1. Download and save the Google Earth installer for Linux.
  2. The file you downloaded should be called GoogleEarthLinux.bin. Find this file, right mouse click on it and select Open with Other Application.

  4. The Google Earth installer will decompress itself, and in a few seconds the Google Earth Setup window should open. The default options should be fine, so click Begin Install to continue.
    How-to Install Google Earth 5 on Ubuntu
  5. Once the installation is finished, click Quit to close the installer, and press return to close the terminal that the installer opened. Start Google Earth from theApplications->Internet->Google Earth menu.

Troubleshooting
If Google Earth opens, shows the splash screen, and then crashes, you’re probably experiencing a common issue. Running ~/google-earth/googleearth in a terminal will show this error:

./googleearth-bin: relocation error: /usr/lib/i686/cmov/libssl.so.0.9.8: symbol BIO_test_flags, version OPENSSL_0.9.8 not defined in file libcrypto.so.0.9.8 with link time reference

To fix this, browse to the folder you installed Google Earth into. By default this will begoogle-earth in your home folder. Find the file libcrypto.so.0.9.8 and rename it to something else, like libcrypto.so.0.9.8.bak. Google Earth should now start correctly.

From Hedgewars’ setup interface, you can jump right to quick game against an AI team, start a multiplayer custom game, connect to a network game, or host your own Hedgewars server.

One feature I really like is the teams setup. You can create your own teams, name their members, choose from a selection of hats for the hedgehogs to wear, and even choose what voice your team will have.

Here are the in-game controls you’ll need to get started: move the current hedgehog (right and left arrows), aim weapon (up and down arrows), control power and fire (hold left mouse button and release), open weapons menu (right mouse button), jump (return key). We can use Cache-Control: max-age=… to inform browser that the component won’t be changed for defined period. This way we avoid unneeded further requests if browser already has the component in its cache and therefore primed-cache page views will be performed faster.
Modern browsers able to cache static files even without any cache control headers using some heuristic methods but they will do it more efficient if we define caching headers implicitly.

For Apache2 you can enable max-age using mod_expires:

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresByType image/gif "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType text/css "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType text/javascript "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType application/x-javascript "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash "access plus 1 month"

For Lighttpd there is mod_expire module. Enable it in server.modules section:

server.modules = (
...
"mod_expire",
...
)
Then add following directives for directories with static files:
$HTTP["url"] =~ "^/images/" {
expire.url = ( "" => "access 30 days" )
}

Max-age for Nginx server can be enabled using ngx_http_headers_module:

expires max;

Now web server sends the caching header for static files:

Cache-Control: max-age=2592000

In case of design change we should prevent using outdated content that browsers have in their caches. This can be done by adding file versions to filenames:

script.js -> script1.js -> script2.js -> ... etc

Cache-control: max-age can be useful also when we output HTML. Imagine pages generated by PHP that changed not so often, once per day or even longer. But browsers still have to download HTML every page view.
We can improve it by sending max-age value in PHP.

header('Cache-Control: max-age=28800');

This way we set desirable cache lifetime to 8 hours. Now if someone is clicking a link for second time within 8 hours period he gets the page instantly.

Max-age also helps to make proxy servers more efficient. We can easily organize transparent server-side caching by adding proxy server to web frontend.

Note that there is not easy case if pages have content that changes often and that’s relevant.
For example, there can be difficulties in caching pages with login form that transforms into some box with «Hello username» after user login or if there are user comments, the user who posted commentary will not see it. Because we cannot ask browser to destroy cache entry, it will still get the old page from cache.
The solution can be using Javascript to generate login box (requires enabled Javascript). If we set a cookie after user logged in, we can check it on client-side and generate suitable content for the logged in user. This way the content will be the same from server side view and can be cached.

<![CDATA[GZIP Compression and Javascript Minification]]> http://itezer.com/blog/web-scaling/169-GZIP-Compression-and-Javascript-Minification.html http://itezer.com/blog/web-scaling/169-GZIP-Compression-and-Javascript-Minification.html Peter Compressing content on server before sending it over HTTP is a good practice since it saves a lot of traffic and makes transfers faster.
For example, Prototype.js is 123KB size and after Gzip compression it becomes only 28KB.
GZIP Compression also affects HTML so even primed cache requests that downloads mostly only HTML will be faster.
So we should enable server-side compression of textual components: Stylesheets, Javascript, HTML, XML (there is no need to compress images as they already compressed).

For Apache2:
compression done by mod_deflate

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/css text/javascript application/x-javascript text/xml

For Lighttpd:
enable mod_compress in lighttpd.conf and add configuration directives:

compress.cache-dir = "/tmp/"
compress.filetype = ("text/plain", "text/html", "application/x-javascript", "text/css", "text/javascript", "text/xml")

Nginx configuration directives:

gzip on;
gzip_min_length 1000;
gzip_types text/html text/plain text/css text/javascript application/x-javascript text/xml;

(See ngx_gzip_module documentation for details)

Besides compression there is minification (removing comments and unnecessary whitespaces) that can further reduce size of Javascript.
Minified Prototype.js becomes 92KB size uncompressed and 23KB compressed, this is 20% less than compressed non-minified script.
There are number of tools for minification exists, I’m using JSMin (http://crockford.com/javascript/jsmin).
