Data Security on Conference Calls

First things first conference calls are generally very secure. Tapping into to a conference call is very difficult from a server side as the equipment is under lock and key in a secure room, and there are hundreds of calls pulsing through the system at any one time making it extremely difficult to source an individual call. It is even harder to tap into a conference calls outwith the server. However there are some important steps that everyone should take to improve their conference calling security.

Change Your Password
The easiest suckers in any digital environment are those that don't change their passwords regularly. So change it so that inappropriate people who have learnt your password cannot tap into the calls. Remember that if you use the same password former employess probably know it. Former employees are commonly disgruntled or working for competitors so please change your password!

Use the security features provided by the Conference Call Providers
Many conference call providers provide users with a PIN for each individual call. Therefore the PIN will only work for that call so even if someone knows your password they can't listen in to your call. Anther useful feature is that when the moderator exits the call the shuts down. This is useful as it means that the moderator has full control over security and he knows that no more will be discussed once he leaves the call.

As always make sure your system is up to date with the latest security updates and make sure your anti-virus software and firewall is up-to-date and switched ON!(you would be suprised to learn how many people do not switch on their firewall.

Good luck and happy calling
